It's a sicky day at this house. 2nd grade seems to be going fine, kindergarden is stalled, not sure if it's a sick kid or just the slow moving air in this house.

Havoc, read on Forces and Gravity, not feeling well, I'm not sure how much more he'll get done today.

New Moon Day

Morning was self directed, worked out very well
the kids watched a show on Jewish Culture
and some more tourism in Australia

On the way to the store, we talked about the dark of moon and decided to have a dark moon themed dinner

We got some dark wine, dark juice, green tortelini (I told them to get dark moony pasta, works for me)
For our ritual, the kids want to pick some flowers for the altar (a round picnic table in the bamboo of the back garden.
And Havoc wants to scry in his Opal. I think I'll bring my red opal out too.

Kidsflash 3 Spelling p32 and 33- had trouble writing more than a few words again today. We need to find the source of his writing anxiety. It's been absent for weeks, but just came back.

ABC Reading Eggs p 2-3, phonicsworks reader "Nip Naps" story

Phonics works reader problem-they're not labelled by the sound they're to be practiced. It's very hard to determine which to use, since I'm not using their curriculum
Solution? label them?

Little school today, other than writing our chores list (which took a painfully long time and falls under the list of things we need to find another way to master)

The Bookstore awarded us with a new phonics/writing text for Mr. Kindergarten. This is a series of shorter workbooks, if we like, there are plenty more.

I think everybody is marginally sick anyway.

Un-school day

(sunday at the museum)

Questicon

Where we looked at many areas of science-
from Illusion, light and sound to Carnival science. My favorite part was the measurement section where you could try to esitmate 15 seconds (I was only off by .7 sec) and arrange tikis by several subjective and objective measures.

The young scientists wish to pursue making a marble roller coaster, and I'd like us to play with pendulums and try to make a clock!

The museum shop offered a great selection of science kits. The prices, a little high, but I have lots to think about for experiments.

We ate dinner on the grass across from the museum, within sight of the aboriginal sorry monument, which the kids remembered from our walk.

At home, Left to their own devices, this evening the kids have been creating.

Woven strips of paper and accordion beads.

Oops, we're learning. ;)

Havoc's Invention of the Day

Little probes that hover just where you put them and they're full of ice and rubber. Maybe marble sized. They have a grate and a fan. You put them over some food and they keep the food cold.

Also winged cherry bombs-like a red gold snitch that blows up.

Spy droid Tiny droidicas that have tiny spikes that would pop out, with hooks to stick onto clothing. Covered in holes spikes would be for walking/pushing it along. Keeping secret it would be painted with camouflage. but color shifting. It can unfold itself and turn flat.

Thoughts from the Intentional Stones blog about our solutions to homeschooling problems

Part of the reason for that blog is to talk about living with intention. Living simply, following my own heart in everything I do, and raising my family.
